Poker Weekend Update

Kim had Friday off and we decided to go to Casino Arizona and play around a bit. I played in the tourney and she hit the slots. First hand of the tourney went like this. I am in the small blind with J8 hearts. Three people limp before me, I complete the big blind and the big blind checks. 250 chips in the pot and the flop comes KK9 two hearts. I am first to act and bet 100 and one person calls. I just found out who has the K. I put him on KJ or KQ. Turn is a off suit 3, I bet 200 and he calls. Now I know he has a K…..slim possibility he has a 9, but I still have him on a KQ or KJ. River is a 10 of hearts. BINGO!!! Hit my flush. I bet 400, he raises to 1000 and I insta call. I show my flush thinking I just started my tourney off nicely, he flips over the K with the other card directly under it. I am thinking that he is embarrassed about playing his set badly, and he slow rolled the 9 under the K. Doh!!! Kind of pissed that he slow rolled me, but what can you do. After that hand I lost over half of my stack. Played a couple of hands for cheap but missed all. After the break, I got pocket 7’s in the big blind. Blinds at this point were 150/300 and I had 500 behind. Under the gun went all in for 1100 or so, everyone else folded to me. I told the guy I should just call blind since I was so short stacked, but I ended up looking anyways, found my 77 and went with it. He had A6 off suit and guess what happened??? You are correct….. the A came on the river to knock me out. Oh well.

Now that takes me to last night. I got up to the Fort at about 5:30. Got into the $3/$6 cash game. Took $100 to the table which is pretty much the standard buy in. I didn’t play the first couple of hands then looked down at AJ of hearts. It was a kill pot which means all the blinds are doubled to $6/$12. A guy on my right raised to $12 and I re raised to $18. The guy three positions to my left called the 3 bets cold (meaning he didn’t have any money in the pot before he called the $18). The original raiser called and we saw a flop. The flop was 10-8-7 with two hearts. Original raiser checked, I bet $6 and both guys called. Turn was a J, original raiser checked, I bet $12, the next guy called and the original raiser folded. River was an A. Now I have top two pair, missed my flush and my straight, but I am feeling pretty good about my top two. I bet $12 and the guy calls. Now this guy was playing the Humberto Brenes roll to the T. We flip over our cards and he shows 7/9 diamonds for the straight. He called a raise and re raise cold in a kill pot with 7/9 suited. How sick is that. So right off the bat I am down $40+. The only other memorable hand I had from that session was I had K7 of spades in the cut off and called the $3 so we went to the flop with 6 people to the flop. Flop came K-3-7 rainbow. Someone bet, I raised the button called and one other called. Turn was some junk, one guy bet, I raised, the button called. River was junk the guy checked I bet $12, the button raised, the other guy folded, I re raised and he called. We both had the same hand. DOH!!! Everyone at the table thought I had a set, except for the guy that went with me. Oh well. The tournament started and was playing pretty well. I did get stuck once and had to rebuy once, but then built up the stack pretty good. Made it to the first break and found that Kris had chipped up again really big. He has no clue how reckless he is playing, but it works for him. Between the first and second breaks is bounty time. During this hour of play, anyone you knock out is worth $20. I did get one bounty and close to two more, but the others folded. Bummer. After the second break I lasted a total of 2 hands. The first hand I had AQo and a guy that I played in the cash game with pushed all in and I called. He had KJo and I thought I was golden until the K hit on the flop. I lost 60% of my chips on that hand. The next hand I was under the gun with pocket Queens. I went all in for 6 big blinds and everyone folded except the big blind with AKo. Of course an Ace on the flop sealed the deal for me and I got knocked out in about 55th place. Kris was still in the tourney so I went back to the cash game. The second session was even worse than the first. I would flop top pair top kicker, someone would flop bottom pair and chase down the two pair to beat me. I would flop a straight and someone would hit runner runner for the flush. It was so sick. The most memorable hand was one I didn’t play in. It was a kill pot and I was under the gun with 3/5 of hearts. Of course I fold because I can’t play that for $6 and if someone raises, put any more money in the pot. Three people see the flop of 2-4-6 of hearts!!! I would have flopped the straight flush!!! I leaned over to the dealer (because I was in the 1 seat) and asked for my cards back. He asked me why? Did I fold a flush? I said no, I folded the straight flush!!! He didn’t believe me so while the other people were betting and raising each other he found my cards and groaned. Of course the pot grew pretty big and after it was all over I asked the dealer to tell the other players what I folded, and he flipped my cards over and showed the table. DOH!!! I could have won a ton of money. If it wasn’t a kill pot, I probably would have limped in with them since I wasn’t doing very well with my good cards that I was getting. Oh well. It was the right fold. I lost my entire buy in and left the Fort about 12:30. Kris got knocked out in about 25th place and left right away. Oh well. Next time I am going to bring enough to play in the $5-$150 game and forget about the $3-$6 game all together. Brian and I played online pretty much all day today. Not a very good day for either of us. I am going to play in the bounty tourney in about 25 minutes so wish me luck.

Watched the Daytona 500 today. NASCAR IS BACK!!! BOOGITY, BOOGITY, BOOGITY, LET’S GO RACIN’ BOYS!!!! Great race, great finish, Jr. finished 9th and Smoke almost took it down for Toyota, but I am happy for Ryan. It has been a long time between wins and Kurt pushed him to victory. Gotta go get the kids ready for bed and get ready for the bounty tourney.

I hope all your big hands hold up after the river.
